Bright reddish-orange body with a distinctive black wedge-shaped patch on the midsection resembling a lamb chop. Laterally compressed, streamlined body with transparent fins. Males are slightly slimmer and more brightly colored; females are slightly rounder with paler colors.

Omnivorous; feeds on high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and micro worms. Blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach can supplement their diet and enhance coloration.
