Slender, torpedo-shaped body with horizontal stripes, enhanced by bright fluorescent colors: red, green, blue, or orange. Fins are mostly transparent. Males are slimmer and more intensely colored; females are rounder and paler.

Omnivorous; feeds on high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and microworms. Occasional blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini enhance health and coloration.
