Due to their size, Giant Bettas need more protein to maintain muscle mass. Feed small portions 2–3 times daily, ensuring variety. Use quality Betta pellets along with frozen or live treats like mosquito larvae and brine shrimp. Avoid overfeeding as it can lead to bloating and swim bladder issues.
Bubble nester; male builds nest and guards eggs and fry
Breeding Giant Bettas follows the same process as other Betta splendens. Use a breeding tank with shallow water and plenty of cover. Condition both fish with high-protein food, and once the male builds a bubble nest, introduce the female. Remove her after spawning. The male tends the eggs and fry for several days.
Maintain steady parameters: temperature around 78–80°F, pH close to neutral (6.8–7.2), and soft to moderate water hardness. Weekly water changes are necessary due to their larger bioload.
Their large size and slower swimming style make them prone to obesity, swim bladder disorders, and fin rot if the tank is not maintained properly. Clean water and minimal flow are vital. Also prone to stress from temperature swings and cramped environments.
Can be aggressive, especially towards other male Betta fish. Best kept alone or in a species-specific setup.
